Wedding Medals of Peru

I don't have much information on these, but I've seen a few on eBay. Nearly all date from around 1890-1910, though I have seen one dated 1936. They are struck, so probably were made in some quantity and perhaps given away at weddings (similar to the baptism tokens, or bolos). The only reference I have found to these is in "Notes on the Marraige Service in the Book of Common Prayer of 1549" by J. Wickham Legg (Transactions of the St. Paul's Ecclesiological Society, Vol. 3, part 4, p. 165-180 (1894). On p. 168 Legg notes that "in Lima these small medals are still struck for many weddings and thrown to the persons who attend the marriage."
