James writes: I grew up in Portland Oregon and used to visit BBR in the summer.... To me the coin looks very like what I remember seeing at the golf course. They used the coins as tokens you would purchase to dispense golf balls for the driving range....
Patrick writes: Black Butte Ranch is a planned community near the town of Sisters Oregon. It was an operating ranch up until about 1970. You can probably find the web page for the ranch, as they are still selling properties there. They have a great restaurant which has a beautiful view of a meadow and the Cascade Mountains. More than likely the "coin" was a "give-away" when the ranch first began selling properties.
