Nick writes: My father used to work in his brother's service station (Esso) in Buffalo -- 1941-1943 approx-- tokens were given out with every 5 gallons of gas purchased for $.90. for 5 gallons. Tokens could be redemed for kitchen appliances/merchandise, etc.
I recently picked up a small lot of similar tokens. Several of the tokens were marked, in very small letters, "A. C. Gibson Co. Buffalo NY." (or "Bflo") This was probably the manufacturer, but the tokens were probable used in the same area. Some of them have street addresses which could help narrow it down.
