About this token:
- Note: I no longer have this token, but I am leaving this page up in case
it is useful to someone.
- Vadim writes: This is a German pilgrims token that was used in Palestine
before the time of the state of Israel. These tokens, were used in cities
to add more small change due to a lack of small coinage in that time. The
coins were used all around Palestine in the major cities were the pilgrims
sat which means: Haifa, Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and more places.
- Bob writes: I confirm it is from Jerusalem.
- Listed in the Menzel catalog of 1993 (Germany). It states that this was
a sect which immigrated to Jerusalem in 1870 and issued the tokens there.
Consum(verein) is German for co-op. Marke is the word for token.
