David writes: This is one of a set of 4 play money tokens. There is a 10, 5, 2 and 1. The information about the maker is correct. There are now two later sets.
Arnold reports: I live about five miles from the Casdon factory & can confirm that your token is from Casdon Toys. I collect Play Money so I know the series well. This series contained values of 1,2,5,& 10 together with three bills. They were superseeded in about 1994 by the present day play coins & bills.
Andrew reports: This is a play money. Casdon are toy manufacturers and make tills and the like with toy money in them.
A web search turned up a listing: Adult imitation Toys made in England by Cassidy Brothers plc. Blackpool, Lancs FY4 4QW UK. Tel: 01253 766411. Fax: 01253 691486, and the web address www.casdon.co.uk This address in now accessible, and it's a nice site! The "products" page lists several types of toy cash registers. These come with plastic coins but there wasn't a good picture of the "coins" so I couldn't tell if they are the same as mine.
