About this token:
- Del writes: This is a iranian marrage token given out by the couple. The
inscription is "marubank" or "Mubarak-bad" it means "glad tidings." The image
is not a cup but a mirror with two candles. Similar inscriptions are found
on many largess coins (donative pieces given out for celebrations like marriage,
circumcision or the birth of a boy).
- I wonder if this token is related to the Islamic tradition of mahr,
dowry given by the groom to the bride? Does anyone know?
- I have made a special page
about this and similar tokens.
