About this token:
- Henk writes: Menzel 7645.3; also 1, 2, 10, 25 and 50 exist.
- Clare writes: Your coin is really interesting, a friend of mine was imprisoned
at Lamsdorf: Stalag VIIIB, later Stalag 344. The coin is known as lagergeld:
POWs (gefangenen) earned this currency (geld) which was only valid within
the Stalag (lager). In fact, they found cigarettes of more use as currency!
My friend would earn coins like this by participating in a working party,
which he enjoyed for getting out in the fresh air more than earning potential.
- Ronald writes: In the book "Emergency Coins of Germany, Richard Upton, 1970"
this coin is listed as Lamsdorf 3-5 and is estimated at $3.00 in 1970 dollars.
- Christian writes: Lamsdorf was a POW camp in Poland with a long sad "tradition".
The Polish name is Lambinowice, see http://www.uni.opole.pl/cmjw/
